Carlton Broxson Chambers, Sr. passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Colquitt, GA with Dr. Craig Hartzog, Rev Corey Thomas and Rev Mark Worsely officiating. Internment will follow at Union Primitive cemetery with Matthew Sheffield, Brooks Garland, Owen Cobb, Anthony Cobb, Israel Houston and Todd Thornton serving as pallbearers. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Colquitt, GA.
Carlton was born November 16, 1943 in Colquitt, GA to Fred Green Chambers and Mary Kate Broxson Chambers. He graduated from Miller County High School Class of 1961 and Bainbridge College in 1992 with an Associate degree in Automotive Technology earning the Academic Achievement Award. Carlton pursued careers in various fields but found his true calling in automobile sales, with the Ford F-150 as his specialty. He spent the last 31 years doing what he truly loved, serving his customers. Carlton was active in his churches serving as a Deacon, Royal Ambassador leader, Sunday School teacher and on the Youth Council. He was the sound engineer for First Baptist Church in Colquitt, GA and Climax Baptist Church. He enjoyed the great outdoors, loving to hunt and fish, and always looked forward to family beach trips. Sixty one years of marriage to the love of his life all began one night while working the ticket booth at the county fair. Carlton saw the prettiest girl he had ever seen, gave her a ticket for a free ride on the swings and the rest is history. He was a devoted husband and proud father, with his and Peggy Ann’s greatest accomplishments being their daughter and son.
He is survived by the love of his life, Peggy Ann Sheffield Chambers, his daughter, Carla Chambers Smith (Tim) of Bainbridge, GA, his son, Carlton Broxson (Broc) Chambers, Jr. (Kelly) of Azle, TX, his grandchildren, Morgan Snider (Will) of Chelsea, AL, Chancellor Chambers of Fayetteville, AR, Callahan Rutherford (Dane) of Lubbock, TX, Ty Smith and Ryals Smith of Bainbridge, GA, great grandchildren, Tripp, Davis Brooks and Boone Snider of Chelsea, AL. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Kate Chambers, his sisters, Barbara Chambers Clearman (Luther), Doris Chambers Sharpe (Dick), Charlotte Chambers Cox (Bill), an infant sister and his brother, Samuel Chambers.
