Dot was married to Alex Marvin Cook and they were the owners and operators of Cook Drug Company on the square in Colquitt. She worked for the American Cancer Society for thirteen years where she was often recognized as leading the state in raising dollars for the cause. Dot then joined three of her friends to form “The Mayhaw Tree” telling anyone who would listen about the delicious red berry jelly. They enjoyed much success and traveled the country selling their mayhaw products. Dot was co-owner with her daughter Dottie of Colquitt Florist for five years where they shared their love of flowers. She then went to work with the Miller County Hospital where she was very successful in raising much needed funds for both the hospital and the nursing home. She was forever a community volunteer and leader. Always looking for ways to improve the Colquitt/Miller county area for everyone to enjoy. In her later years Dot returned to her love of flowers with “ Dot’s Flower Garden.” With her artistic talent of pressing and preserving flowers she was able to help capture and preserve special moments in someone’s life.
