Dorothy Innette Houston

February 6, 1932 — April 19, 2024

Dorothy Innette Glisson Houston (92, February 6, 1932) died peacefully at her daughter, Nancy’s home in Lilburn, GA on Friday, April 19, 2024.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Choice William Houston, of Colquitt, GA, along with her parents Elton and Montine Miller Glisson of Donalsonville, GA, and her sisters Mary and Margaret Elaine Glisson Strickland.

Dorothy grew up and is from Donalsonville, GA.  After graduation, she went to Americus to attend business school.  After completion, headed to Atlanta.  She worked in the Georgia State Revenue Department.  She could list and quote every county in the state of Georgia.  While living in the Methodist Girls Home of Atlanta, she met Choice William Houston of Colquitt, GA.   After a 9-month romance, married October 23, 1955.  She continued to work until the birth of their one and only child, Nancy Jane Houston (September 19, 1957).

Dorothy loved to have a clean house and you could eat off of her floors, as she was adamant about cleanliness. She enjoyed cooking, reading and worked in the church library for years until Choice retired and they returned to the homeplace of the Houston family in the Mayhaw community of Colquitt.  Dorothy stayed busy with Nancy serving as a girl scout leader, dancing lessons, piano lessons and the many other activities that Nancy pursued.  Dorothy was always the mom ever present to lend support and help in any way she could.

After Choice’s death in 2017, she continued to live by herself until she felt like she could not and called Nancy.  Nancy brought her to live with her in Lilburn, GA. about 6 years ago.  Her days consisted of western TV shows, The Price is Right and Word Search Puzzles. She made it to 92 as that was her goal she relayed to Nancy.  After that she began a downhill spiral that resulted in hospice and her peaceful passing.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Nancy Jane Houston (Gordeuk), a son-in law, Nicholas Gordeuk, two grandsons, Travis Houston Gordeuk (Laura Ashley Barnes, deceased 2022) and Tanner Houston Gordeuk and his wife Anastasia Tavenier Gordeuk.  One natural great grandchild, Isabella Barnes (5) along with two precious great grandchildren Laura had prior to Travis- gave to Granny to love and hold near, Brianna (10) and Liam (7).  She leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews along with their children.
