James Doss Darley, Jr.     87

     Mr. Jim "J .D." Darley, age 87, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Calhoun County Nursing Home.

     Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Larry Powell officiating at Colquitt City Cemetery.

     Born July 23, 1935 in Colquitt, Georgia, he was the son of James Doss "Bud" Darley and Grace McNease Darley. He worked for Morton Salt Company. In addition, he worked for Great Southern Plywood where he retired as General Manager.

     He loved his church, New Salem Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 45 years and taught Sunday School for 45 years.

     One of his greatest joys was playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sarah Middleton Darley; one daughter, Shawn (Ken) Roberts; one son, Alan (Stephanie) Darley; four grandchildren, Kendall (Bobby) Donley, Whitney (Alan) Johnson, Grant Darley, and Sarah Caroline Darley; five great-grandchildren, Brock Donley, Kara Donley, Vander Johnson, Wren Johnson, and Trace Johnson; two brothers, Danny Darley, and Terry Darley; and two sisters, Ann Vann, and Jan Brown.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Don and David Darley; and one sister, Sue Reckner.
