Jerrie Hornsby Magee

Jerrie Hornsby Magee passed away on April 1, 2023, at the age of 83. Jerrie was born in Colquitt, Georgia on June 24, 1939, to Royce Cephus Hornsby and Lennie Grace Cook. She grew up on her family’s farm where she developed her lifelong fondness for plants and animals. She attended Miller County High School where she played basketball. After graduating from high school, Jerrie moved to New Orleans to attend the Charity School of Nursing where she played basketball and became a Registered Nurse. Jerrie worked at Charity Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital. Nursing also led her to meet and marry her late husband, Dr. Charles Hadden Magee. Jerrie later became the nurse for his medical practice where the two worked together until retirement. Jerrie is survived by their five children Jefferson (Carol), Bryant (Teresa), Stuart, Neil, and Sali along with countless others that she welcomed into the house and was always willing to give a home to.

Jerrie will be going back home to be buried in her family’s cemetery in Colquitt, Georgia on May 24, 2023, in the Scarborough Cemetery on Twilight Road in Colquitt. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a graveside service at 11:00 am.
