Mr. Jerry Torbert of Colquitt, GA died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Thompson Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Whittaker officiating. Interment will follow at Thompson Cemetery with Matthew Torbert, Jacob Torbert, Kason Flowers, Josh Torbert, Michael Middleton, Jeff Cox, and Joey Sexton serving as active pall bearers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Thompson Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Torbert was a deacon and long standing active member of Thompson Free Will Baptist Church. He worked with John Deere equipment for 45 years. Mr. Torbert was very active in the Miller County community. He was also an avid supporter of Miller County Hospital. Jerry was part of the group of people that created the Crooked Oaks golf course, supporting the economy of Miller County. He was an avid supporter of Miller County FFA and Young Farmers Association that helped them achieve their many goals. Jerry had a great sense of humor, a strong love for his family, friends, people and animals. He was always willing to help anyone.
Mr. Torbert is survived by his wife, Maxine Gibson Torbert; three sons, Jay (Jeannine) Torbert of St. Simons Island, GA, Travis (Tara) Torbert of Moultrie, GA, and Thad (Ashley Donley) Flowers of Bon Aire, GA; eight grandchildren, Matthew Tobert, Jacob Torbert, Sara Grace Torbert, Josh Torbert, Rhiana Flowers, Kason Flowers, Catlin Phillips, and Paige Phillips; four brothers, Sam Torbert of Cuthbert, GA, Jack Torbert of Cuthbert, GA, Dan Torbert of Americus, GA, and Terry Torbert of Coleman, GA; and one brother-in-law, Alvin Caldwell of Coleman, GA. Jerry leaves behind his beloved companion and best dog friend, Samson. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.G. and Lorene Torbert; and one sister, Tammy Torbert Caldwell.
The family would like too thank the family and friends that have offered prayers and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Debra Dollar, who has been a blessing to Jerry and Maxine, and Gentiva Hospice.
