     Mr. John Andrew "Johnny" Phillips, Jr. of Damascus died Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Emory Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tony Mock officiating. Interment to follow at Pickle Cemetery with Evan Warren, Tim Marshall, Greg Marshall, Travis Pickle, Herman Pickle and Wesley Whitaker serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Phillips, Paul Brunson, J W Willis and Bryan Willis. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Colquitt Funeral Home.
     Mr. Phillips worked at Damascus Peanut Company for 44 years, and was co-owner of Damascus Fertilizer and Early Trucking. He was Mayor of Damascus and served on the city council for many years. He served in the U S Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Phillips was a 1965 graduate of Miller County High School, and received a Bachelor Degree from Berry College. He loved all his grandchildren very much.
     He is survived by his wife, Sue Phillips of Damascus; one daughter, Jessica (Curt) Redding of Carnegie; two sons, Bret (Stephanie) Phillips of Colquitt, and Preston Phillips of Damascus; six grandchildren, Fallon (Alex Simon) Bowman, Annie Redding, Ben Phillips, Sabella Phillips, Laney Phillips, and Tucker Redding; one great-granddaughter, Delsie Simon; one sister, Doris Chandler of Winter Springs, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold Phillips, Hubert Phillips, Thel Phillips, and Pete Phillips; three sisters, Lois Holt, Louise Gilbert Hammond, and Myrtle Rudd; and parents, John Andrew Phillips, Sr. and Mary Lou Adams Phillips.
     Flowers will be accepted by the family, as well as donations made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
