Mary Ellen Layton

     Mary Ellen Layton, age 77, passed away Sunday February 4, 2024 peacefully in her sleep, at Southern Pines in Warner Robins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 7, 2024 at Colquitt Funeral Home. The family will accept visitors at 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM in the Sheffield Funeral Chapel at Colquitt Funeral Home, with Dr. Craig Hartzog officiating. Interment to follow at Primitive Union where she will be laid to rest next to her daddy and mama. 

     Mary was born in Del Rio, TX, but relocated to Colquitt, GA where she spent a majority of her life and where she called home. She spent her career caring for others while working as a CNA for many years before retiring and moving to Warner Robins, GA with her family. Mary loved spending summer vacations in Texas visiting family. 

     She is survived by her daughter, Missi Bailey Ammons (Jeremy) of Bonaire, GA; her sister, Betty Pubanz of Bonaire, GA; one grandson, Nate Ammons; two nieces, Tammy Jones and family of Warner Robins, GA and Tina Carter and family of Auburn, GA; and one nephew, Edward Pubanz of Bonaire, GA; as well as her bonus children that she loved like her own, Sheila Sheffield of Colquitt, GA and Don Layton of Lake Seminole, GA.  

     She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edward and Louise Newberry of Colquitt, GA; brother-in-law, Ernie “Poobie” Pubanz of Bonaire, GA; and nephew, Craig Pubanz of Warner Robins, GA.  

     The family will accept flowers, but prefer donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
