Matthew James Barefield

Matthew James Barefield died Friday, January 10, 2025 in Colquitt, Ga.  A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jean Watson officiating.  Visitation will be from 3 to 4 PM, Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Colquitt Funeral Home.

Matt loved welding and picking his guitar. He found solemn peace within the lyrics of music. You were guaranteed to have a smile on your face if Matt was near. He had the most positive outlook on life you could ever ask for. He lived by two of his favorite quotes: “I’m in deep on better days” and “Find someone who grows flowers in the darkest parts of you”. Matt loved working at Oxford Construction Co. And was excited about his recent promotion to Mechanic. 

Matt is survived by his Mother, April Barefield of Colquitt, Ga. and Father, Jessie Hilton Barefield of Bainbridge, Ga. Two sisters, Jessica Barefield and Ashley (Lu) Barefield. Three nephews, Brantley Hilton, Henry James Graham (Jr.), and Shade Thomas. Maternal Grandfather, Earl Roach. Paternal Grandparents, Pamela Hurst and Hilton Barefield. Aunts and Uncles: Gary (Rachel) Roach, Elizabeth Barefield, Gregory Barefield (Kash) and several others. Cousins, Paige (William) Stark, Gary Roach Jr., Brooke (Austin) Spears, Mason Spears, and Grayson Roach. 

 Matt is preceded in death by his Mamaw, Laura Roach, aunts, Michelle Roach and Patricia Widner.
